[Trigger warning: Slavery apologia is unavoidable in this series. But also emotional manipulation, discussion of rape and false rape, possessive and pedophilic tones, misogyny, and now, gaslighting.]

[Haunted expression on Leliel’s face]

Anne: …I’d ask why he looks like someone walked over his own grave, but I’ve been watching the other spork. I now understand what it’s like to learn things man nor frog was meant to know…

Wanderer: I don’t know why you, or especially him, feel the need to torture yourselves like that.

Leliel: Contractual obligation…agreed to by myself…and wanting to get it done before this term’s final project…

Luz: Plus side, we get to meet a vampire pirate! …Minus side, we now get to see the inevitable continuing slide into blatant edgy power fantasy. Including a couple moments where I’m pretty sure if it was on a website, it’d end with “and everyone clapped.” Because, spoiler, Naofumi insults the king to his face and that somehow doesn’t get consequences!

Suspire: I be of a similar opinion with all that. Because what we are about to witness…I do not jest, if you told me everything that be occurring in Episode 13, I would call you a conspiracy theorist and clearly making excuses. The Red Menace is to be…feared? Avoided. Avoided be a better term.

[Trigger Warning: Yep, it’s slavery apologia day. Again. Also the slave trader, neglectful parenting, discussion of fictional hate crimes, and abusive relationship dynamics.]

[You may have noticed that my (Leliel) IRL co-sporker has renamed his handle to Wanderer2691, or Wanderer. I’ll explain if asked over DMs.]

[Sporking chamber, wherein Yukiko, Iana, and Chie are finishing up listening to Wanderer rant about the other spork.]

Chie: …I’m feeling lucky we don’t know the first thing about Warhammer 40,000, and I find Evangelion too depressing…

Yukiko: The sheer amount of hilarious grossness that is Nurgle is not enough to intrigue me…

Iana: …I can’t decide if I’m offended more as a woman or as a schemer…

Leliel: Hey, camera’s on - sup, spork fans! We just gone done overviewing why Wanderer2691 is no longer part of the Thousand Shinji spork we’re doing at this moment! …and relatedly, why our next spork is lighter fare!

Wanderer: [Shivers] This spork should not feel like a vacation…at least it’s just slavery, and misogynistic…

Iana: …and profoundly dumb politics…

Yukiko: …and extremely creepy relationships…

Chie: And as obvious in this particular duology, really terrible ideas of heroism, both intentional and not…

Wanderer: Again - should not feel like a vacation.

Leliel: Says you. And to be fair…we are currently out of the Horror Zone. Unfortunately, she’s still here, and as we’ll see, this is where the Cardinal Heroes take their true form: scapegoats for Naofumi. No matter how little agency that gives the entire world.

[Trigger Warning: Yep, got more slavery apologia, plus some pedophilic tones plus nonexplicit underage nudity. And these episodes are a break from the last two. Holy shit.]

[As the scene opens, it becomes clear that the only two human people are present.]

Leliel: …so that’s kind of why we need you guys. Because the main sporkers have officially called a break after that shit, and given how it’s about a sentient magical bird…

Green-Eyed Crow: …This still feels like a mite speciesist. Or maybe I just really don’t want to.

Red Hawk With Sword: Do ye ever, Catha?

Winged Woman: If anything’s going to make her more than just being stubborn, though…Danu’s tits. I feel almost inadequate at this.

Wanderer2691: And camera’s on-hey guys! Welcome back, to what is currently a very demonic co-sporker cast! …literally, all these ladies are Shin Megami Tensei demons, which we have…well, dragged from the Expanse because understandably, our normal co-sporkers would have held a mutiny, led by an actual pirate.

Leliel: And the thing is, ironically, these two episodes are a bit of a break from the creepy nonsense, just really weird and cliche nonsense. But we felt that after The Horror really scarred us, we needed three birds - especially given how here, we have an episode about consequences of heroism, and perhaps the most pointless royal we’ll meet in the series…including Mircella. But first, Sporker Roll Call!

[Trigger warning: Still yet moar slavery apologia and related abuse, as well as a TON of pedophilia-adjacent stuff, a minor having a possible pregnancy kink, and an uncomfortable view of Raphtalia’s crotch as part of a cringey gag by the series. And MUCH MORE incest undertones. Also, underage partial nudity.]

Leliel: So…apparently “five minutes” to Iana is “sneak out when nobody’s looking.”

Iana: [Chained to seat, tongue out] Says the man who actively “realized” he needed to create a few character sheets when he realized the video wasn’t done loading.

Luz: Yeah, but you kind of left your husband-

Suspire: Leliel said he refused to start without all crew accounted for.

Luz: Ooooh. You sly devil! Thanks for the thirty minutes!

Wanderer2691: Yeah…unfortunately, we still need to do this…and looking ahead? I fear for Leliel’s sanity, given his hate of crap harems and scientific fails…

Episode 7: The Savior of the Heavenly Fowl

[Trigger warning: Even moar slavery apologia and related abuse, as well as a TON of pedophilia-adjacent stuff. And incest undertones. And threats of sexual assault. And just plain pedophilia and discussion of incest. There is a reason we call Filo the Horror.]

[Cut to the sporking chamber, which is now rather…gothy. And piratey. And damp]

Wanderer2691: [Pokes at a scuttling bone-white crab] Uh, Lels? Why are all the co-sporkers you tie yourself to supervillains?

Leliel: [Shrugs] I can be an edgy boy sometimes, and I always like the thematic of an outcast who does good despite being rather terrifying and with a nature that wants to be a baddie.

Luz: Hey, no shade from me. My girlfriend specializes in creating zombie muck monsters, having a hot vampire pirate husbando is hardly aiming low.

Iana: [Purring happily in Suspire’s arms] Well…I cheated. He is, after all, my destined partner. And he is cute enough I don’t feel the need to fight the Bond too hard…and as a fair warning, I’m going to spend the next two episodes wrapped around my dear Eastern sea crow. I need mental healing.

Suspire: Quite. Welcome back to Rising of the Shield Hero, wherein we get two episodes following…That Thing, aka Filo, as she does not develop a better and less timber-shivering second impression, along with full hints of how deep Naofumi’s greed runs.

The true cost of Golden Not-Chocobo breeding. )

[Trigger warning: Slavery apologia, pedophilia undertones, general misogyny, sex slavery as a joke. Also, spoilers for a decades-old anime in the form of Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. And, oh yes, mentioned FRONTAL NUDITY OF A MINOR HOLY SHIT WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS SERIES.]

[Mobile warning: Image heavy by necessity, and a lot of images are pretty big. Prepare to side-scroll]

Leliel: [Long, pained moan…]

Anne: …I’d ask why, but I saw the other spork they’re working on - check Thousand Shinji, Chapter 14, it’s the one divided into two parts. [Hollow look] My innocence will never come back.

Wanderer2691: Yeah…not only do we have…that chapter we’re recovering from, at the end of this pair of chapters, we’re going to get the most skeevy character in this show on a conceptual level…and it starts with Naofumi, essentially, declaring his allegiance to slavery as a concept because…”respect for others.” Buck up folks, this is gonna be a long one.

Yukiko: [Rigid, terrifying smile] This show is making me root for the hypothetical alien invaders. At least working in the resource mines of Imperator Opresson The XIIIth is universal equality at the bottom.

Chie: Yeah…and the fact the sporking chamber seems to have a leak isn’t helping. [Pokes a wet spot with her foot] Also, there’s four dots in some heavy shadow here, and it’s making me feel a little superstitious…

[Trigger Warning: Slavery, emotional and physical abuse, emotional manipulation, bigotry, misogyny.]

Leliel: [Checking for earplugs again]

Iana: You know, that scream didn’t leave permanent damage. And my throat is still sore from that, so I don’t think I have it in me to lose my cool like that in the near future.

Wanderer2691: Yeah, and you are one third of the sporkers. The other two have entirely undamaged larynxes and soon-to-be damaged minds.

Chie and Yukiko: [Looking at script of previous spork with utter revulsion]

Yukiko: [Icily] Let’s do this.

Chie: Y-yeah…best way out is through and all…oh this is going to not be fun at all…

Leliel: Yeah, especially because we’re doing two episodes today, to really get across the early portrayal of Raphtalia…and just how manipulative this show is.

Iana: But first, some backpoints!

And now, a word from our sponsors (ie us). )

[Trigger warning: Rape accusations, gaslighting, all the misogyny, slavery]

[Link to Das Sporking version]

Leliel: [rolls head] Hoo boy. I am not looking forward to this…

Wanderer2691: Yeah. You were really bummed to discover there was, in fact, a dub transcript - which means you have no excuse, you can just copy paste it.

Iana: Oooh-hohoho…the seal’s claw curls for the lazy…

Luz: …Oooh, monkey’s paw local version, got it! …And yes, I’m being a little desperate, given how apparently this first episode is so notably bad that our hosts decided to break the two-episode pattern before it even started!

Anne: Mm. Yeah, the Persona duo lucked out too - though the note said ‘stay of metal torment’, so maybe we’re not that bad off…

Leliel: Trust me, that’s debatable, when a commenter pointed out that we accidentally pointed out a point-worthy failure before the intro was done.
